CAPE’s Prevention Programs are aimed at providing families and professionals with the information, resources and support necessary to reduce the risk of an abusive environment from developing.

CAPE addresses issues relating to child abuse and neglect by providing the following services:

  1. Workshops for Parents and Professionals

    Workshop presentations are provided to parents, teen parents, professional groups and school age children. This program has expanded to include more than 15 topics addressing a wide range of issues parenting issues such as communication, child development and discipline. An overview of abuse and neglect including warning signs, reporting procedures and legal responsibilities are presented upon request. Specific topics for school age children include bullying, issues related to puberty, protecting personal space and sexual abuse awareness. Most topics can be adapted to meet the needs of specific groups.

    Workshops are free of charge to the community and are funded by private donations and foundation grants.

  2. Fatherhood First

    This program provides parenting workshops to fathers and caregivers who are serving the end of their sentences through the Kintock Group residential pre-release/ parole program. It is funded through a contract with the Philadelphia Department of Human Services Division of Community-based Prevention Services. Fatherhood First serves approximately 300 participants annually, with the goal of helping fathers learn to initiate and/or enhance the process of reunification with their children in a positive and healthy manner.

  3. Emergency Family Fund

    In an effort to ease the pressures that sometimes lead to child abuse and neglect, CAPE initiated the Client Emergency Family Fund. This fund is limited to the clients served by Northeast Treatment Centers, Inc. (NET) and provides for their critical needs. These needs include emergency food and clothing, baby equipment, beds and bedding, transportation tokens and school uniforms and supplies.
