Child Abuse Prevention Effort

CAPE

What We Do

Need Help?

CAPE’s mission is the prevention of child abuse and neglect through direct intervention with the community and families who need our assistance and guidance.

CAPE addresses issues relating to child abuse and neglect from two perspectives:

Services to Children in their Own Home (SCOH Services)
In-home social work services are provided to families reported for child abuse and/or neglect.  CAPE social workers provide ongoing, weekly intervention to approximately 320 families annually.  All provisions related to these services are underwritten by a contract with the Department of Human Services, City of Philadelphia.

CAPE’s Prevention Programs
CAPE’s Prevention Programs are aimed at providing families and professionals with the information, resources and support necessary to reduce the risk of an abusive environment from developing. CAPE reaches over 4,500 individuals annually through its Prevention Programs.

1. Hotline
215-624-1101

A supportive listening service for the discussion of specific parenting concerns and a source to provide information regarding community resources and referrals.

2. Community Education Program

Workshop presentations are provided to parents, teen parents and professional groups. Topics explore parenting and child development, discipline techniques and an overview of child abuse and neglect including signs of abuse and legal responsibilities.

3. Emergency Family Fund

In an effort to ease the pressures that sometimes lead to child abuse and neglect,  CAPE initiated the Client Emergency Family Fund.  This fund is limited to CAPE’s client families and provides for their critical needs.  These needs include emergency food and clothing, baby equipment, beds and bedding and school uniforms and supplies.
